Manana Elementary Kalo Harvest

Students at Manana Elementary harvested the kalo grown in their aquaponic systems. Students learned how to harvest the corm and leaves, then replant in their systems for future harvests.

Aquaponics Program at Nanakuli High & Intermediate School

In collaboration with HI Fusion ED, Hapa Farms worked with teachers and students at Nanakuli High & Intermediate School to install aquaponics systems in a greenhouse. The outdoor learning area has been used to learn about science, health, sustainability, and la’au lapa’au.

YMCA Camp Erdman Starts Pilot Aquaponics Program

We had so much fun working with YMCA Camp Erdman staff and campers to build a small aquaponics system. It’s exciting to see such a large organization, that reaches so many youth in Hawaii, getting an aquaponics program started!

Keoneula Elementary System Build

Hapa Farms helped with a build of two aquaponic systems at Keoneula Elementary. The project was funded by Hawaiian Electric. Several teachers and administrators as well as assorted staff members participated in the build. This aquaponic system is part of a larger school garden featuring in ground native Hawaiian plants.

Aquaponics in the Classroom Conference

Hapa Farms presented at the Aquaponics in the Classroom conference, hosted by the College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources, University of Hawaii, as part of the Sustainable and Organic Agriculture program. Held at Windward Community College, the conference was attended by UH faculty, K-12 teachers and administrators, students, and industry professionals. Hapa Farms presented on “Best Practices & Lessons Learned for Aquaponics in Schools” reflecting on our experiences with developing aquaponic programs in various schools on O’ahu.

Kanoelani Elementary System Build

Administrators, teachers, staff, and community members came together at Kanoelani Elementary School in Pearl City to build their aquaponic system in a build workshop led by Hapa Farms. Participants got hands-on with the build and received training in system maintenance.
