Hapa Farms installed a residential system at a home in Kahala. The homeowners have done a great job of maintaining the system and growing a variety of plants!

Aquaponics in the Classroom Conference

Hapa Farms presented at the Aquaponics in the Classroom conference, hosted by the College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources, University of Hawaii, as part of the Sustainable and Organic Agriculture program. Held at Windward Community College, the conference was attended by UH faculty, K-12 teachers and administrators, students, and industry professionals. Hapa Farms presented on “Best Practices & Lessons Learned for Aquaponics in Schools” reflecting on our experiences with developing aquaponic programs in various schools on O’ahu.

Kanoelani Elementary System Build

Administrators, teachers, staff, and community members came together at Kanoelani Elementary School in Pearl City to build their aquaponic system in a build workshop led by Hapa Farms. Participants got hands-on with the build and received training in system maintenance.

Manana Elementary School System Build

Manana Elementary School in Pearl City received their aquaponic systems and have enjoyed cherry tomatoes, lettuce, and kalo that they’ve grown.

Highlands Intermediate School has placed first in the state in the Intermediate School STEM Week Hawaii awards for their outstanding commitment to STEM education. Patioponic Systems at Palisades Elementary

Four patioponic systems were built at Palisades Elementary for use with their fourth grade curriculum. Faculty and staff were involved in the build and received training in system maintenance, planting, and basic food safety.

Aquaponics Workshop for Pearl City Complex Educators

Hapa Farms participated in a workshop for educators in the Pearl City Complex on December 8. The workshop was held at Highlands Intermediate School and was led by isisHawaii, CTAHR, Hapa Farms, and teachers from Highlands Intermediate school who shared their experiences with integrating aquaponics into their science curriculum and maintaining their systems. Hapa Farms presented on the applications of aquaponics in education, from science to environmental stewardship and current social issues. Participating teachers made their own static hydroponics systems to grow lettuce.

Aquaponics Workshop for Nanakuli/Waianae Educators/Community Members

Hapa Farms participated in a workshop to introduce educators and community members in the Nanakuli/Waianae district to aquaponics. The workshop was held at Windward Community College on November 5 and was led by isis Hawaii, CTAHR, and Tapiki as

part of the Ipu Waiwai Kula AE project. Hapa Farms presented on the uses of aquaponics in education.
